CEREAL KILLER STALKS!!

The ancient grain of barley was once the staple diet of gladiators. But from fuelling their bloodletting activities in the Coliseum this protein rich cereal has, today found another opponent with which to do battle: cholesterol! A study conducted at the University of Upsala in Sweden has found that a new form of barley, Activated Barley,™ actually reduces LDL cholesterol in the body.

The Activated Barley™ process takes organic barley grain and, via a patented method utilising temperature, pressure and humidity, brings it to the activity point just before sprouting. One of the key constituents of Activated Barley™ are beta glucans, a highly nutritious form of soluble fibre that becomes gelatinous when ingested and these play an important role in eliminating cholesterol.

The single-blind study involved 49 healthy males and females with elevated levels of LDL cholesterol. The product chosen for the study was Activ, a mix-to-drink supplement which predominantly features activated barley as well as a small amount of soya isolate. After a 12 week trial the study concluded use of Activ was likely to achieve health benefits and reduce risk of coronary and vascular problems because of its ability to lower LDL and total cholesterol levels in the trial participants.

Adopted into man’s diet since ancient times this unique cereal now seems set to assist man to conquer more adversaries. Though these ones won’t be wearing armour, the body’s defences will undoubtedly be giving the thumbs down as Activated Barley™ wins another nutritional victory in the battle for good health.
